Today early morning, Marja and Kari left for Kustavi to monitor how much progress had been made on the summer cottage renovations.
For lunch, Ann-Christine drove Camilla and I to Cafe Sali for a salad bar lunch.
Cafe Sali, one of the most popular restaurants in Rauma.
Camilla and Ann-Christine enjoying their salads!
The salad I ordered was by far the best and nutritious salad I have ever had in my entire life. Along with salad, cucumber, and tomatoes, the basic ingredients, my choices for the four toppings were: spicy chicken, grilled chicken, carrots and broccoli, and Mediterranean style pasta. My choice of dressing was sweet chili, which was definitely different, but delicious nonetheless! Though I usually devour my food in minutes, I wanted to prolong my salad enjoyment, so I ate each forkful of salad thoughtfully and slowly. Each bite was an explosion of tanginess and savoriness, and each topping ingredient contributed to a new dimension of the Cafe Sali salad experience. The ambience of the restaurant was also delightful, with large portraits of New York City hanging on the walls and chandeliers dangling from the ceiling.
Too bad this iPhone camera does not even do justice to the beauty of Kuninkaankatu (the street name). The tall pointy building in the distance is the new Town Hall.
Walking through Old Rauma never fails to amaze me. The quaint, picturesque houses are so well preserved, and there are surprises to be found at every corner!
We met up with Suvi and Ida, Camilla's friends, at Hollywood Boutique, one of the shops in Old Rauma and then headed to Rauma's "Central Park" and the Rauma mall. We went to Lindex and Seppala, and I found some amazing post-Midsummer deals.
After strolling around the park, we found a jäätelöä kiosk and purchased ice cream!
Me enjoying delicious Pingviini jäätelöä!
I was so proud of myself because I ordered my ice cream entirely in Finnish! I said "Kaksi palloa, herkku nougat ja suklaa jäätelöä, kiitos" which means "Two scoops, Nougat Delicacy (the name of the ice cream) and chocolate ice cream, thank you!"
Trying to consume the ice cream as fast as I could before it turned into a dripping puddle of goo was futile, as the warm summer sun still managed to melt the ice cream. Nonetheless, we all managed to finish our frozen treats and headed back home to play a game of African Tahti, a treasured Finnish board game.
